The Ohio Statehouse is helping promote a number of educational programs to honor February as Black History Month.

Normally the events are presented at the Statehouse, but this year are being held through virtual means. All the events are free to view.

The weekly series began earlier in February with a show detailing the Tuskegee Airmen from World War II, with a recording now available at OhioChannel.org. The series continues Tuesday at noon with a program detailing racial heritage in Appalachia.

The series is organized and presented by We’ve Known Rivers, a Columbus-based organization working to build cultural awareness of African-American History.

Here are the upcoming program details, with registration information:

Tuesday, Feb. 9 at noon, “A People Denied: Tri-Racial Appalahian Heritage,” presented by Lynette Ford

Tuesday, Feb. 16 at noon, “Henry ‘Box’ Brown: Magician Escapes to Freedom,” presented by Rory Rennick.

Tuesday, Feb. 23 at noon, “Streams in Motion: Stories from WKR Rivermates,” presented by Lynette Ford, Rory Rennick and Anthony Gibbs.
