A Cincinnati lawmaker has announced her candidacy for Hamilton County auditor .
State Rep. Brigid Kelly, a Democrat, said she is vying for the auditor in 2022 after having spent the past five years fighting “for what matters most at the Statehouse.”
“The auditor is supposed to be our local consumer watchdog, and that is exactly what I’ll be,” Kelly said in her announcement video.
Dusty Rhodes, the Democratic incumbent, recently announced he would not be seeking a third term in office.
Kelly is currently in her third two-year term representing the 31st District in the Cincinnati area.
She joins several other sitting state lawmakers who are campaigning for an elected office away from Capitol Square.
Four are running for the open 15th Congressional District seat in an upcoming special election: Rep. C. Allison Russo, D-Upper Arlington; Sen. Stephanie Kunze, R-Hilliard; Rep. Jeff LaRe, R-Violet Twp.; and Sen. Bob Peterson, R-Washington Court House. (Rep. Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, was a candidate before withdrawing from the race.)
